FINAL BURN

BOULDERING EVENT

Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023
PRG Wyncote

Feel the burn at our last event of the Burn Bouldering Series, including BOTH Youth Finals, and Adult Finals!

CLIMB FOR POINTS

In each of the four events, climbers will receive points for the five highest point value climbs they finish. Every climb’s points depend on the difficulty of the climb. Harder climbs are worth more points! Scores will be compared to the other climbers in your category. Use them to see how you stack up, or use your score to keep track of your climbing throughout the season!

Novice category will start at VB, so everyone is encouraged to come enjoy the fun!

STAY FOR FINALS

We like to end each of our events with a great show! After each competition, there will be a finals round for the Open category. The top 16 competitors of the event will put on a show for spectators as they battle with our hardest boulders, gladiator style! The only thing that can make it better is beer, and we have that too!

STAY PYSCHED!

Our Burn Series has been blazing over 20 years for a reason! Each event is tailored to have fantastic boulder sets that are sure to keep you invested, engaged, and most importantly, psyched on bouldering. Our ranking system measures your progress, year over year, keeping you psyched to try hard and get better. Whether you are a newer climber, or experienced one, there is fun for everyone at these events!

The Burn Bouldering Series consists of four events – the Midnight Burn, the Winter Burn, the Heart Burn, and the Final Burn. Each event will follow the same format as the Burn’s always have, and awards will be based for each event on performance in that event.

All four events are open events for all categories. Competitors in each event will not only vie to win each comp (and the awards that entails), but also to win the Overall Burn Series, which will be selected in each category based on each competitor’s combined performance throughout the entire series! For more details please read our Burn Series Rules & Guidelines.

To be eligible for an Overall Burn Series title and awards, a competitor must compete in the Final Burn and at least two other Burn Series events.

Climbers’ rank in prelims will be based on their top 5 problems. There is no limit on the number of tries.

For Open Categories there will be a final round, for up to 8 competitors in both Male and Female categories. The format for Finals will be Modified (Highpoint) World Cup (sometimes called Onsight).  All competitors are expected to be familiar with these rules prior to attending the competition. For a more detailed description of formats and rules, please read our Burn Series Rules and Guidelines.

Please note: Formats are subject to change at any time, subject to the discretion of the PRG. Please call or check back for updated information.

Click Here for more information on joining the Judge’s Corner!

Registration for each event will close at 5PM EST the day before the event.

You are still able to participate, however you will not be allowed more time to get the full 3 hours to climb. All climbers will finish climbing at the same time.

TLDR-  Basically, the higher your points, the better your rank in the Burn Series.

When you look at the Series Rankings you’ll notice the right hand side for each category is a column labeled “Ranking”. This ranking system is a way for you to track your progress through each season. Each competitor will start the series with a point value for their ranking, based on either their performance from the previous season, or in the case of new entrants, an average point value. At the end of the first event, after all the scores are calculated, each competitor will have their Ranking Points adjusted to reflect their placement in the event. Competitors will carry their Ranking points from the previous event into the next. Ranking Points will be updated after each event based on the individual’s score/placement. And so on for further events.

The basic idea is as follows: At the end of a given comp, your Ranking points will be adjusted based on how many other competitors in your category placed above you or below you. For those you place higher than, your points will increase based on how their points compare to yours at the beginning of the event–you get a large bump for placing above someone who was ranked higher than you, less of one for placing above someone who was ranked at or below you. And, the converse is true for those that place above you–your points will decrease for each person placed above you, less for those who are already ranked higher than you, more for those ranked lower. In the end, the balance of these adjustments to your Ranking points will update your Ranking for each successive comp.
