Each day during Discovery Camp, kids learn technical climbing and climbing safety skills through instruction provided by expert PRG staff. Rock climbing along with other camp activities such as teambuilding elements, sports challenges, yoga, and arts and crafts provide kids with even more opportunities to develop and practice leadership, communication & creative thinking skills. Discovery Camp is designed for all levels of climbers – no prior experience is necessary!
Ages 7 – 15
Experience the best of both climbing worlds in Camp Real Rock! Spend four days indoors with Discovery Camp and then take your newly learned skills outdoors to the local crag under the expert guidance of our Guides. Camp Real Rock is designed for all levels of climbers – no prior experience is necessary!
Ages 9 – 15*
This camp is a great way for your young climber to experience outdoor rock climbing, hiking and camping! Located near Fayetteville, WV, the New River Gorge (NRG) is one of the best climbing areas on the East Coast. Kids will learn top rope climbing, basic rappelling, knot tying, basic rope skills, leave-no-trace hiking and camping ethics, general outdoor climbing safety and so much more!
*Prerequisites required. Involvement in PRG Youth Programs, adequate climbing experience &/or PRG Top Rope Certification is necessary for enrollment. Email us to inquire about eligibility.
The PRG will provide climbing equipment free of charge for all Seasonal Camp participants. Climbers who have their own gear are welcome to bring it.
We recommend non-restrictive, athletic clothing.
Seasonal and Day Camps & Summer Camps – Full and Half Day climbers are provided with morning snacks and juice/water. Lunch for full-day campers must be packed and is not included.
New River Gorge Expedition – Meals are provided for climbers during the trip, however, we encourage campers to have some spending money for meals in town, on the drives, etc.

No! PRG’s Seasonal Day Camp programs require no prior climbing experience whatsoever!
Our Discovery Camp and Real Rock Camps require no prior climbing experience whatsoever!
No. The cost of camp includes climbing time and equipment rental, as well as expert instruction.
All participants must have a completed waiver form, signed by a parent or guardian if the participant is under 18. All participants are guests of the PRG and are required to obey all PRG rules.
For a full refund, 30 day notice is required for cancellation.
Outside of 15 days, we can offer a credit to be used at any PRG in the future, OR a 50% refund for the program.
If you wish to switch to a different camp date or program, every effort will be made to accommodate at no additional cost.
Please note: since each camp has a limited number of available spots, we cannot guarantee availability for a different date. To switch camp dates, please email kids@philarockgym.com
The PRG will provide climbing equipment free of charge for all camps. Camps that include overnight portions, such as the NRG Expedition will have required camping equipment (such as sleeping bags, tent, headlamp, etc.). It is also highly recommended kids have their own shoes, harness, chalk bag, and belay device for the NRG trip
Normally, we see kids in Levels 3 or 4 on this trip. Kids will be camping and must bring their own tent and basic camping/climbing gear.
